I was in a pretty good mood this entire week. It started with the amazing concert and seeing my college friends again and continued with the hardcore workouts I’ve had every single day. I was feeling great!
The past few days, while driving I noticed that my coolant light kept coming on and off. I had a bottle of it in my trunk that Dave’s friend gave me the last time he fixed my car, but every time I wanted to add some it was pouring, so I kept putting it off. Friday though, when I got home from work, I popped my hood and checked the levels, only to find out that it didn’t need any coolant. My car seemed to be riding fine. It wasn’t running hot and for the most part everything was working, so I just assumed it was an electrical problem since my overhead light likes to randomly turn on and off and I’ve been having issues with my turn signals. Did I mention that my car sucks?
I was on the way to the gym with Dave and Chrissy Friday night to do another killer workout. We get about a mile down the road and the gauges on m car start going crazy. The temperature gauge went from HAPPY DRIVING TEMP to HOTTER THAN THE SUN almost instantly. Dave asked me if I had put any coolant in it. I told him I checked and it didn’t need any. “It’s probably your water pump,” he said. All I heard was “EXPENSIVE”.
We let the car cool down and then drove it home, having to stop once because it overheated again. Dave got a hold of his mechanic friend and he said to bring it to the shop in the morning. This kid is awesome. He’s worked on my car a few times. He never wants any money except for the parts. I usually buy him some beer and give him some cash, which he never wants to take. I told Dave we need to start calling him to hang out every once in awhile because I feel bad for calling him only when we are having car trouble.
We all squeezed into Dave’s mustang to go back to the gym. On the way, we pass a Kia dealership. Dave jokingly says I should buy a Kia. For some reason I thought he said “Ikea”.
Dave: Ikea should make cars. Cars that you have to assemble yourself. Step 3,047…”
It turns out my water pump is bad, which is like a $30 part but a real pain in the ass in replace because you pretty much have to take apart the entire car, which means I won’t have one for a few days. Luckily, I am able to walk to work so this isn’t that big of a deal, but I hate having to depend on other people to transport me around. On the bright side, at least the fix is going to cost me less than $100 and my car didn’t catch fire on the side of the road.
Things could always be worse. My house could have caught fire from a lightning strike.

I’m sorry girl! That really sucks! I hope you get your car back soon!
